| The following four folks have accepted these board positions ... |

Advisory Warning: The following is the opinion of alan bailey and therefore not very well thought out. It is, of course, not necessarilly the opinion of the Mac2Mug Board ... I think it is important that we stop and think about how fortunate we all are that we have had, for many years, a small group of folks, way too small, that has consistently given time and energy to keep this group together. In the ten years that I have been associated with this user group, it has almost always been the same 4 gentlemen taking the responsibility to put on a meeting almost every month. There are those who organize, those who handle paperwork and dues, those who present at meetings, and those who plan what we should present. Each person has a place they feel comfortable. A role that is good for them. Each and every time that it is time to elect new board members, they perform a session of musical chairs as no one steps up and offers to fill a vital role in the existence of the group. They do it for us every time. Again and again. This year, we have new input. Two new members. They didn't come from a body of people that have been attending meetings for years. They came as new members. Rob Ellis and Scott Meier. I've only spoken face to face with Rob on one or two occasions and it was quite some time ago that I met Scott. Rob brings energy and great humor to the board. Just look at what he did for the email announcement regarding the June 3rd Meeting. Scott is a talented web and design professional (apologies if I am stating that incorrectly) who has great ideas for the group and will hopefully turn this site into a more useful tool for the members. Gosh knows, we need that. I, for one, would certainly love to see someone step up and say "Hey, I have an idea for a meeting" or "Hey, I'd like to do a presentation." I think I could cut off two fingers and still count on one hand how many times this has happened in the last five years. It's not easy to put yourself in front of the room and run that emotional risk. These guys are doing it every month. The next time you are at a meeting, say 'Thanks' to Mike, Bruce, Tom, and Todd for their continued service. Show Rob and Scott some appreciation for stepping into their roles and injecting new ideas, experience, and energy into the group. Then stop and think about how you could inject something yourself. The group becomes more fun when you get involved. alan |
